Read up in Excel about the "SUM IF" function, and that will enable you to do most of what you want I think.

One very annoying thing I had to learn the hard way when I taught this to myself, is that "SUM IF" doesn't actually go into effect unless, after you have entered in the formula, you press shift+control+enter. After you do that, brackets appear in the function bar, and it will work. But if you don't do that, the cell will just say zero. I remember going nuts trying to figure out what I was doing wrong until I eventually somehow found out that you have to press shift+control+enter to make SUM IF work.
